MTN Rwanda, the country’s leading mobile operator by market share, has launched a service that will enable its subscribers to purchase cash power using their mobile phones.

The service dubbed ‘MTN Mobile Money ‘Cash Power’ top up’ will limit the operator’s customers from making long queues at EWSA voucher selling outlets, MTN said in a statement.

“With the new MTN Mobile Money facility customers are able to make this transaction any time, from anywhere for any amount; we are offering unrivalled customer service with this product,’’ Albert Kinuma, head of MTN Mobile Money, said in the press release.

The company describes the development as ‘the game changer in the country’s telecommunication sector’, which currently has three players, including Rwandatel and Tigo Rwanda.

There are four directives both in English and Kinyarwanda a customer has to go through so as to get the service.
A customer will have to entre the MTN mobile service and select the cash power option, enter the cash power meter number, amount required to purchase and then receive a voucher number to feed into the meter.

In a related development, MTN recently partnered with Vision Finance Company to activate a customer loan repayment facilitate through MTN Mobile Money.

This means that Vision Finance customers cannot only use the facility to service their loan, but also control and access their accounts.
